SHAMOKIN — Central Susquehanna Opportunities (CSO) Inc. has collaborated with Shamokin Yellow Cab on a transportation program for employees to get to work.

Valerie Wills, CSO Job Opportunities Boost Self-Sufficiency (JOBS) coordinator, has contacted employers and staffing agencies to notify them about the service. Great Dane Trailers and Michaels Foods are signed up to use the program when it goes into effect.

A van will be used in the Shamokin, Mount Carmel and Kulpmont areas to transport employees. Pickup locations will be established once the number of passengers is identified. Daily round-trip tickets will be sold at a fee discussed between the employee and Shamokin Yellow Cab. It will vary based on the employer location and number of riders each trip.

There must be a minimum capacity of nine riders each van trip so it is able to operate daily. Tickets purchased are good for the next day only.

“This is a great opportunity for job-seekers who may have limited or no transportation,”

Wills said, “as well as for current employees who are looking for another means to get to work.”

The program, the van and the driver are ready to go, she said; it’s now just a matter of lining up riders.

Questions can be directed to Carole at Shamokin Yellow Cab at 570-648-5756 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
